Why is our support service for finding a residence free of charge?

Visavie will receive a referral fee from any private seniors’ residence in Québec or Ontario if the older adult moves into a residence within either of these networks.

How does a consultation with a housing counselor work?

We explore your needs in detail, transforming them into concrete actions. During the selection process, you will meet with an advisor in person to discuss your aspirations and guide you toward suitable private residences. During visits, leave the organization to us; we will be with you every step of the way. During the move, our presence provides ongoing support beyond the usual assistance.

How long should I expect to spend looking for a place to live?

Most people spend about 137 hours searching for a private retirement home. They must first assess the market, find out about the characteristics of the residences that are likely to catch their attention, visit them, and complete the administrative procedures before finalizing their choice.

What types of housing do you recommend?

We recommend all types of private senior residences based on the needs of older adults.

Private seniors’ residences must have a certificate of compliance issued by the Quebec government or a license issued by the Private Seniors’ Residence Regulatory Authority in Ontario.

What is a RPA?

By definition, an RPA is described as a multi-unit residential building intended for individuals aged 65 and over who are independent and semi-independent. Private residences for seniors are required to be certified. The CIUSSS is responsible for the certification process for all private seniors’ residences located within its territory. As part of the certification process, an audit is conducted by Accreditation Canada, and the CIUSSS ensures that recommendations are followed up on. When a residence meets the requirements of the regulations, the CIUSSS issues a certificate of compliance that is renewable every four years.

Seniors living in an assisted living facility pay monthly rent for an apartment or room and have access to various services tailored to their needs. RPA offers a variety of complementary services, the level of which is tailored to the individual needs and preferences of each senior citizen.
