I seek to identify the underlying cause of the aggressive behavior and respond to it appropriately. Sometimes, it may be helpful to redirect the person’s attention by suggesting a relaxing activity or engaging in a soothing conversation. In other cases, it may be necessary to consult a healthcare professional for tailored advice and solutions. It’s also essential to take care of myself as a caregiver and not hesitate to ask for help if needed. Managing difficult situations can be challenging, but by staying positive and showing empathy, solutions can often be found to calm the elderly individual and improve the situation.
Is there a particular moment when you realized the importance of your work as a caregiver?
It was when I accompanied an elderly lady on an outing for the first time in months. Her face lit up with joy, and she was filled with gratitude for this little excursion. It was at that moment that I understood how much my work could positively impact the quality of life of the elderly. It deeply touched me and reinforced my passion for helping these precious individuals.
